Research Team

The EVPAT project is lead by a research team of Department of Management, University of Bologna.

Federico Munari - Department of Management, University of Bologna
> Project Director
Federico Munari is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Bologna, where he teaches the courses of Technology and Innovation Management and of General Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Bologna, and has been visiting scholar at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and visiting researcher at the Ecole des Mines de Paris and at the Cass Business School of London. He has published several books and articles in the fields of corporate governance, new product development, and R&D management.

Raffaele Oriani
- LUISS Guido Carli University and Department of Management, University of Bologna

Raffaele Oriani is an Associate Professor at Luiss Guido Carli of Rome. He got his PhD in Management from the University of Bologna and held visiting research positions at the Department of Economics of the University of California at Berkeley and at the Bank of Italy. His research interests are in the market valuation of innovation and real options. He has published several books and articles in national and international journals. He is member of the scientific committee of the PhD in Management at the Department of Management of the University of Bologna.

Maurizio Sobrero

Maurizio Sobrero (PhD, MIT) is Full Professor of Innovation Management s at the School of Engineering of the University of Bologna. He was Research Fellow at the MIT Industrial Performance Center in 1994, Fullbright Doctoral Fellow at the Agency for the Monetary and Financial Studies "Luigi Einaudi" in 1992 and 1993. Since the 2000 he has been coordinator of the Doctorate phD in Management and since 2007 is Director of Department of Management of the University of Bologna. He's deeply experienced in economy and technological innovation management, with particular attention to the relationship between ownership structure and R&D investments and between R&D investments and firm market value. About these topics he has published several books and numerous articles on national and international journals.

Serena Morricone

Serena Morricone is PhD student in Management at University of Bologna and she got MSc Degree in Business Administration at Luiss Guido Carli of Rome.
She is currently researching on the value relevance of intangible assets, focusing on the European adoption of International Accounting Standards. Her areas of research include also the accounting treatment of intangible assets, managerial discretion on accounting estimates, the role of financial analysts in stock market and financial analysts' earnings forecasts, IPO underpricing, signaling models.

Enrico Forti

Enrico Forti is a PhD student in Management at the University of Bologna and he got his MSc Degree in Business Administration at Bologna University (2004). After completing his MBA program in Tecnology and Innovation Management at ALMA Graduate School, he's been working in the management consulting industry as business analyst at Accenture where he's been involved on mutual funds and change management projects within the major italian financial istitution. He is currently researching in the innovation management field dealing with rivalry between publishing and patenting activities.

Maria Isabella Leone

Maria Isabella Leone is a Ph. D. student in Management at the University of Bologna. She got her Master of Science Degree in Management at the Luiss Guido Carli University of Rome in 2004. She is currently researching on firm’s technology licensing, by paying great attention on determinants, both internal and external affecting the capacity of licensee firms to absorb and integrate external technological knowledge. She is also investigating other licensing-related issues, such as markets for technology, patent valuation and firm’s technology strategy in general.

Laura Toschi

Laura Toschi is PhD student in Management at the University of Bologna and she got MSc Degree in Management Engineering at the University of Bologna in 2004. She is currently visiting scholar at the Boston University where she is researching on entrepreneurial finance. In particular, she is focusing on the determinants of the value creation for Corporate Venture Capitalists applying a Real Option framework. She is also dealing with academic entrepreneurship topics as well as management innovation and finance.


Luigi Sereno

Luigi Sereno is a research fellow at University of Bologna, Management department. He got his Ph.D in Economics from the University of Bologna. His research interests focus on economics and management of innovation and financial economics: derivatives, real options and jump diffusion process. He is currently researching on the valuation of patent rights with the real options approach.

Francesco Pipitone

> IT Consultant
Francesco Pipitone is an IT Consultant, since 1998. He started focusing his interest in computer science very early, at the young age of eight years. He worked, as a consultant, for many important european IT companies. He took his Degree in Information Technology and Management at Bologna University (2007). He is now working for the Department of Management of the University of Bologna, collaborating with the EVPAT project research team. His main role is to develop a Data WareHouse platform that will be used for patent data analysis and research. He is developing a robust and powerful ASP / PHP / MYSQL infrastructure dedicated to the needs of the EVPAT project.
